Sub-types of Uveitis
- Birdshot Chorioretinopathy
-
Birdshot chorioretinopathy (BSRC) is a rare and
potentially blinding chronic posterior uveitis. IIt has
many different names including:- Birdshot Chorioretinopathy, Birdshot
Retinochoroidopathy and Birdshot Retinochoroiditis. These names are
shortened to BSRC or BSCR or BR or BC. It is unusual in that it is an
autoimmune disease which appears to only affect the eyes. This fact
sheet gives an overview of the condition and its treatment, including what monitoring
is necessary and what tests you may expect to receive.
- Punctate Inner Choroidopathy
-
Punctate Inner Choroidopathy (PIC) is a rare form of posterior uveitis. PIC is one
of the so called ‘white dot syndromes’ which come under the heading posterior
uveitis. PIC has only been recognised as a distinct condition, or type of posterior
uveitis, as recently as 1984 when Watzke identified 10 patients who appeared
to make up a distinct group within ‘white dot syndromes’. This fact sheet gives an overview of the condition.
- Keratouveitis and Keratitis
-
This fact sheet tells you about Keratouveitis
which is a term used when there is a combination of keratitis and
uveitis. Normally this type of uveitis is caused by infection such as
the Herpes simplex-1 (HSV-1) virus or the Herpes Zoster virus which
causes shingles. It is also possible for Keratouveitis to be caused by certain
types of bacteria.
